The Mains Road and Kessels Road Intersection Upgrade Project is located on the Brisbane Urban Corridor and is extremely constrained by commercial and residential properties on both sides, accommodating over 90,000 vehicles per day. DTMR engaged with the market through a dECI process to tender and deliver the project to widen the road corridor.

Neil Silversides and CPM were engaged by Baulderstone through the initial EOI and subsequent tender phase to assist with the planning, design management and estimation of the PUP and ITS elements as well as the negotiations with the Service Authorities including QUU, Energex, Telstra (and other carriers), APA and Brisbane City Council.

The relocation of the PUP assets was one of the main constraining factors of this project, its scope included water mains from 300 – 900mm, major electricity assets including transformers and overhead supplies and major optic fibre network assets. These service relocations created a major risk to the project and other stakeholders in terms of cost, complex programme, complex design and continuity of service to the end customers and included major road and creek crossings utilising open cut and trenchless methodologies.

CPM were engaged by Baulderstone to work with DTMR, Parson Brinkerhoff (Designers) and the Service Authorities to prepare concept designs, negotiate with and gain acceptance from the relevant stakeholders, to assess the risks associated with the PUP relocations and provide estimates for the tender stage.

Upon successful award of the project CPM worked with Parson Brinkerhoff to provide the permanent detailed design for the project, tender packages for Baulderstone to engage subcontractors to complete the relocation works and ongoing liaison with the Service Authorities throughout the process to allow successful outcomes.
