What drew you to your career?

At the time, I think it was as simple as looking for a job that provided a good mix of indoor and outdoor work. When I finished school a neighbour encouraged me to enrol at Uni to study to be a property Valuer – which I did. While I never practised as a Valuer, I have had a wonderful 25+ year career in a variety of property, development and project management roles.

What is your favourite part of the work you do?

The range of opportunities it presents and the challenges that come with them. I’ve worked on a number of large projects across the private and public sectors and each one has its own unique set of issues, problems and objectives. Being able to understand, develop and implement successful ways to address these project challenges can be very rewarding.

What does “unlocking hidden value” mean to you?

Identifying a better way to do something and awakening the client to the opportunity.

What’s your proudest achievement / greatest learning?

Apart from my family, I think being involved in setting up Flagstone as a Major Regional Growth Area under the SEQ Regional Plan and now seeing it being implemented. I’m also proud that I was part of the team that re-established the Mary Valley community through the successful rollout of a targeted economic development strategy following the termination of the proposed Traveston Crossing Dam project.

My greatest learning? It’s the little things that make a big difference.

What are your passions, hobbies, interests outside of work?

I am a proud Gold Coaster and support all our local teams, particularly the Titans. I also enjoy surf boat rowing with my local club, Surfers Paradise. It’s rewarding to be actively involved in the community and I encourage anyone to seek out hobbies and interests outside work and participate – don’t be a spectator.
